What exactly are the white days?

Every lunar month, the moon reaches full brightness on the 13th, 14th and 15th nights. These are the Ayyam al-Beed — literally "the white days" — named for the moonlit nights. The Prophet ﷺ advised Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) to fast three days of every month, and specifically encouraged these three.

What is the reward?

"Fasting three days every month is like fasting the whole year."— The Prophet ﷺ (agreed upon), since every good deed is multiplied tenfold: 3 × 10 = a month, every month = a year

Three days a month is also the most sustainable fasting habit in Islam — small enough to keep during work weeks, big enough to transform your year.

When are the white days this month?

Here's the catch: the white days live on the Hijri calendar, and the Hijri year is ~11 days shorter than the Gregorian one. The 13th–15th of the Islamic month lands on different Gregorian dates every single month — sometimes mid-week, sometimes on a weekend, always drifting. Unless you actively follow the lunar calendar, you find out the white days happened after they've passed.

SAWM 360 solves this with a dual Hijri–Gregorian calendar: the white days are marked with a ☀️ badge every month, and a reminder the night before means you never miss the niyyah.

How to fast the white days

  1. Make the intention before Fajr (for a voluntary fast, an intention during the morning also suffices if you haven't eaten).
  2. Fast from Fajr to Maghrib as usual — the app shows your exact local window.
  3. You may fast all three days or any you can manage; consecutive is not required.

Never miss the white days with SAWM 360

  1. Open the Calendar tab — white days carry a ☀️ marker on the dual Hijri–Gregorian calendar, months ahead.
  2. Enable white-day reminders — get a notification before the 13th so you can plan suhoor and make your intention.
  3. Check your window — the day view shows your local Fajr → Maghrib times and estimated duration.
  4. Mark each day completed — white days count toward your monthly merit badge — ×3 every month.

Frequently asked questions

Do the white days have to be fasted consecutively?

No. All three in a row follows the moon's peak, but you may split them or fast fewer — every day counts. SAWM 360 logs whichever you complete.

What if the 13th falls on a Friday?

Fasting Friday alone is discouraged, but it's fine when it's part of the white days or paired with Thursday or Saturday — which is usually the case here.

When are the white days in the current month?

Open SAWM 360's calendar — the ☀️ white-day markers show the exact Gregorian dates for your current Hijri month, plus reminders before they begin.
